The Possible Ballroom & Latin Dances: Foxtrot, Quickstep, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Jive, Jazz, Charleston, Contemporary; Cha-Cha, Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.    “Learn the dance, learn the steps, then learn the character of it.” — Len Goodman

Mon., Oct. 23, 2017:  Val opened as a rookie screenwriter finishing, offering, and getting his screenplay accepted and produced.  “Hooray for Hollywood!” had the whole team dancing.

  1. Nikki + Artem: Arg. Tango (“Derniere Danse,”  Indila [Foreign]).    Judges:  9,9,9,9.  Me 9.

Proper, intense, sharp but also flowing and smooth and elegant dancing; excellent arm/handwork, legwork, lifts/spins.  Very-good choreo, Artem!

She’s due for:  Foxtrot, Quickstep, Jive, Charleston, Cha-Cha, Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

  1. Drew + Emma: Paso Doble (“Legend,” The Score [Action]).             Judges:  7,7,9.7.  Me 8.

They incorporated Drew’s years as an expert in karate into a highly physical and explosive dance. Intense/dramatic and exciting, but a bit awkward at times and lacked certain traditional Paso movements sufficiently.

He’s due for:  Waltz, Tango, Jazz, Charleston, Contemporary; Cha-Cha, Samba, Salsa, Rumba.

  1. Nick + Peta: Samba (“Wild Wild West,” Hill/Smith/Dee [Western]). Judges:  7,6,7,6.  Me 7.

He worked hard and gave a pretty-good performance, with his solo moves being better than some of those with Peta. He’s done as much as he can folks; it won’t get any better for him.

Still work on technique, exact footwork, and overall looseness, esp. in the hips.

He’s due for:  Waltz, Vien. Waltz, Tango, Arg. Tango, Jive, Charleston; Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

  1. Victoria + Val: Paso Doble (“We Will Rock You,”  Queen [Sports]).    Judges: 8,8,7,8.  Me 8.

A creative, aggressive, competitive hockey-game concept that contained sufficient Paso content and worked well; good job!  I much prefer a traditional Paso, though, with some required large, open, and rounded movements.

She’s due for:  Waltz, Arg. Tango, Vien. Waltz, Jive, Jazz, Contemporary; Samba, Salsa, Rumba.

  1. Terrell + Cheryl: Jive (“Feel It Still,”  Portugul, The Man [Spy]).        Judges: 9,9,10,9.  Me 9.5.

Terrell was 007—suave, confident, smooth, well-timed, excellent footwork, and even sexy. Really good dancing and overall entertainment. His winks at the camera were really cute, and he genuinely appeared to be having fun.  Very enjoyable!  He deserves to be here and to continue in the competition.

He’s due for:  Waltz, Tango, Arg. Tango, Jazz, Charleston, Contemp.; Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble.

  1. Frankie + Whitney: Jazz (“Holly Rock,”  Sheila E. [Animation].       Judges: 7,8,8,8. Me 8.

Such FAST music, with many fast and varied kinds of steps.  At least 95% of footwork was very good, with several missteps and mistimings (nothing huge). Good handwork and cute facial expressions. A fun, entertaining dance.

He’s due for:  Waltz, Vien. Waltz, Jive, Charleston, Contemp.; Cha-Cha, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

  1. Vanessa + Maks: Quickstep (“Let’s be Bad,” Smash [Musical]).        Judges 9,9,9,9.  Me 9.

A really fast Quickstep, as Bruno said, like a Forties musical.  Great footwork, fun, fab.

She’s due forVien. Waltz, Tango, Arg. Tango, Jive, Charleston, Contemp.; Samba, Salsa, Paso Doble.

  1. Jordan + Lindsay: Rumba (“Supermarket Flowers,” ESheeran [Drama]). Judges:10,9,10,10. Me 10.

Beautiful, continuous flowing, graceful dancing/movement. Gorgeous, heartfelt story; gorgeous dance. Outstanding choreo, Lindsay! Loved it!

He’s due for:  Quickstep, Waltz, Arg. Tango, Jive, Jazz; Cha-Cha, Samba, Salsa, Paso Doble.

  1. Lindsey + Mark: Arg. Tango (“Human,” Sevdaliza [Sci-Fi]).  Judges 10 all.  Me 10.

WOW!  Choreo “phenomenal,” per Len. YES! Proper, intense, sharp, incredible kicks and turns and extra moves. Shortly before the end, when she arched backward and then jumped on him—that was fantastic, along with their separate yet synched moves at the end.  Stunning!  Loved it!  MY Dancing With The Stars DANCE OF THE NIGHT!
She’s due for:  Waltz, Tango, Jazz, Charleston, Contemporary; Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

WHO WAS IN JEOPARDY? Terrell, Nick, Frankie.

WHO WAS ELIMINATED TONIGHT?  Nick, appropriately.

WHO SHOULD BE ELIMINATED NEXT WEEK?  It may be a toss-up–anybody except my top three of Lindsey Stirling, Jordan Fisher, and Vanessa Lachey.

NEXT WEEK: Halloween Night with 2 dances each.

CAI:  CAI is said to be battling Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).  I feel for her because I’ve been through that.  Fairly recent news is that part of the treatment can be similar to that for Fibromyalgia (rest, proper nutrition, careful exercise, etc.–yes, some exercise even when you’re fatigued).  According to what I’ve seen in relatives and friends, Fibro is twice as bad as CFS because it isn’t just fatigue—it’s also a lot of pain and more.  Cures, please!

Bindi Irwin:  You’ll recall that Bindi won DWTS with pro Derek Hough several seasons ago (fantastic!) and that she often appeared with her family and famous father, Steve Irwin, on “The Crocodile Hunter” before Steve died (11 years ago?!).   Good news:  The Irwin family will return to TV next year “on new projects and adventures with “Animal Planet,” widow Terri Irwin said.   They’ll also be “global ambassadors for Discovery Communications.”

LET’S TALK ABOUT Dancing with the Stars!
