Dancing With The Stars: Week 11, Night 2 Finale, Analysis and Results
It’s THE FINALS Week! Last night, the finals; tonight, the finale and our winner! The location alternated between the ballroom and The Grove next door. Clips from the season’s practices, rehearsals, performances, tricks on one another, and more were shown. The judges, for the final time this season, were (left to right) Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, former pro Julianne Hough, and Bruno Tonioli. Near the end, Jana Kramer performed one of her latest songs. Needless to say, all dancing was fabulous. Tom and Erin hosted.
Periodically during the first half, one of the top four performed a redo of a dance from earlier in the season. Jana and Gleb, who were voted out last night, did their HOT Argentine Tango from Week 6, and it’s still SMOKIN’ HOT! Calvin and Lindsay, too, did an Arg. Tango from Week 6 (excellent but not hot). James and Sharna redid their Quickstep from Week 4. Laurie and Val redid their trio Samba with Maks from Week 10.
For tonight, each couple was assigned a fusion dance, which was their last dance of the competition, right before the winner was announced:
Calvin Johnson: From running on the football field to dancing in the ballroom!
Jive & Quickstep: Joyous, fun, perfect, charming. Loved it! Judges’ score 10. My score 10.
James Hinchcliffe: with Sharna! From driving a race car to dancing in the ballroom!
Viennese Waltz & Foxtrot: Beautiful, flowing, graceful. Loved it! Judges’ score 10. My score 10.
Laurie Hernandez: From winning for the USA as a gymnast in the Olympics to dancing in the ballroom! Foxtrot & Arg. Tango: Powerful, accurate, excellent. Judges’ score 10. My score 10.
DANCE OF THE NIGHT: (1) Calvin & Lindsay; (2) James & Sharna.
WHO WON, PLACED, OR SHOWED:
Laurie James Calvin
Why America gave the win to a gymnast who has a dance background, instead of to one of the two male contestants who had zero dance experience but performed outstandingly/equally well, is beyond my compre-hension and extremely unfair to James and Calvin. I repeat: I never want to see another gymnast on this show.
OTHER NEWS: Laurie will join the DWTS winter tour!

To understand how ballroom dancing and its fame today, on this show, differs from how it was in the 1930s and 1940s, you’ll want to read the biography I wrote of my father’s life in showbiz during that era: “Dancing in the Stars: Carroll Webster, International Dance Luminary of Vaudeville & Hollywood.” Get it from Amazon or Createspace.com.
