DANCING WITH THE STARS

POST-SEASON 24 AND PRE-SEASON 25 NEWS

HOT SUMMER NIGHTS:

The Dancing With The Stars “Hot Summer Nights” Live Tour began on June 16 in New Jersey, worked its way across the U.S., and finished on Aug. 13 in Fresno, California. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see this one.  But judging by their “Dance All Night” winter tour that I saw in Cincinnati in January of 2016 and by their performances during the regular DWTS seasons, it was as awesome and entertaining as ever. Congratulations to the team.  Word is that Season 24’s winner with Emma, NFL running back Rashad Jennings, held his own excellently alongside the pros while adding his own moves and flavors to the charming and funny personality that we came to love during his season on the show.  Wouldn’t you love to see his dance again? I would! Although Gleb had to leave the tour when his baby was coming a few weeks ago, I’m guessing that he’ll be a pro again this-coming season, starting on September 18.

Any pros who just finished the tour but are being chosen for Season 25 will have to pop right into the studio to start training their respective celebrities. Can you imagine being so physically fit to do that?!  Hats off to the Dancing With The Stars pros!

As a reminder, the pros and troupe members who just finished the tour are:  pros Sasha Farber (with Season 24 partner/U.S. Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, Emma Slater (Season 24 winner with Rashad Jennings), Sharna Burgess, Keo Motsepe, Lindsay Arnold, Artem Chigvintsev, and Gleb Savchenko,  along with troupe members Alan Bertsen, Hayley Erbert, and Britt Stewart–all under the creative genius and direction of award-winning choreographer Mandy Moore. To be fair, I must also remind you that the cast was subject to change based on variables such as illness/injuries, family situations, and babies such as Gleb’s arriving, but I don’t have names of other pros or troupe members who may have filled in.

I hope they enjoyed themselves as much as my father did in some of those beautiful old theaters in the 1930s and 40s.  Life for a ballroom dancer back then was w-a-a-a-y more difficult than it is for the pros of today.  If you’d like to know more while also enjoying the aspects of romance, mystery, and celebrities of the era and while being inspired to overcome obstacles in life, I think you’d enjoy the biography I wrote: “Dancing in the Stars—Carroll Webster, International Dance Luminary of Vaudeville & Hollywood” (contact me for a volume discount!).

I met Emma, Val, very-tall Keo, and guest/finalist Alek Skarlatos (partner of Lindsay Arnold in Season 21) when they came to Cincinnati; they’re all very nice and professional.  Alek was absolutely adorable and sweet.

WHICH PROS WILL DANCE THIS SEASON?

As of this Monday, August 21st, Sasha and Emma were choreographing for “So You Think You Can Dance” (SYTYCD) and Jenna Johnson is still in the competition as a dancer.  Great job, you three!  Sasha and Emma must have joined as soon as the Hot Summer Nights tour finished just over a week ago. But, as for Jenna, the longer she stays there, the thinner her chances become to be a pro on the new season of DWTS because the last few weeks of SYTYCD overlap with the first few of DWTS.  The question becomes, could she rehearse for and be on both shows while having enough hours to teach a new DWTS celeb to dance?  Supposedly, the pros this season of DWTS will be decided and availability confirmed this week!  I don’t know about you, but I’d like to see Jenna come back as a pro.  She does a great job, she’s cute, and she’s a nice girl.  BTW, reminder: She’s also been Val Chmerkovskiy’s love interest for quite a while.

Edyta Sliwinska recently had her second baby (on Father’s Day Sunday in June), but expressed a desire to return to the show.  She is stunning as a beauty and as a dancer; she’s equally sweet and funny.  Whenever she can come back, I’ll be thrilled.

Speaking of babies, we know that cute but firey little redhead Anna Trebunskaya won’t dance this season because she’s pregnant with her second child.  I’m sure that she’ll continue to return periodically.  I’d really love to see Tony Dovolani dance again, too, instead of confining his talents mostly to teaching students at some of the studios that he co-owns with the Chermovskiy brothers.

May we please have Sharna as a pro again this season, and can we please get a Mirror Ball Trophy for her?  She really deserves to win and, in my book, should have won with race-car driver James Hinchcliffe a couple of seasons ago.

PRO DANCERS for Dancing With The Stars Season 25 are promised to be revealed TOMORROW on Good Morning America.  Stand by for the lineup from me!

2017 DANCE INDUSTRY AWARDS: DANCING WITH THE STARS WINS!

On the evening of August 16th, the Industry Dance Awards were presented to winners.  Derek Hough won as America’s Favorite Choreographer! (He could not attend, though.)  The Chmerkovskiy brothers, Maks and Val, won an Innovator Award; Peta, her former partner Tommy Chong, and Jenna were there to support them.

CELEBRITIES CONFIRMED OR RUMORED FOR SEASON 25:

CONFIRMED:  It’s time for twins!

  1. Drew Scott, the real-estate expert half of the twin brothers who have starred on HGTV’s “Property Brothers” show about finding and remodeling fixer-upper houses into dream homes.
  2. WWE pro wrestler Nikki Bella, who also has a twin (sister). Both girls star on E!’s “Total Divas.”

RUMORED:

  1. Could New Jersey Governor Chris Christie be dancing? Incumbent politicians are not allowed to strike deals regarding future employment, so it’s probably just a false rumor. I doubt that he’d be interested, anyway.
  2. Actor Robert Palmer Watkins from the soap “General Hospital” may have been asked. It’s also said that he’s getting attention because he’s working on a new movie, “Last Three Days,“ which he’s been working on for the past month.

I hope that the producers will book mostly people with widely diverse backgrounds and experience who actually have some dance talent and none who can’t even pull off an eye roll, let alone a hip roll.  What’s great is when they achieve a tight-knit family-type cast who truly do root for the other members.  I can tell when it’s fake.  Can you?

CONFIRMED CELEBRITIES for Dancing With The Stars Season 25 will appear on Good Morning America on Wednesday, September 6th.  I’ll get that news to you right away!

Till next time (tomorrow), keep your dancing shoes on!
