DANCING WITH THE STARS SEASON 25, FALL 2017, WEEK 4

Dear DWTS Fans:  Thank you for enjoying our blog and for bearing with us until we could enter all of the latest signups into the database. Some weeks, we receive so many signups that we have a heck of a time getting caught up.  Again, thank you!

Welcome to Week 4 of Season 25, Dancing with the Stars!  Tom and Erin hosted. Carrie Ann Inaba (CAI), Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli judged.  It’s “Most-Memorable Year” Night, which usually brings truly vulnerable and heartfelt personal stories and performances from the celebrities.  This week will be vastly opposed to last week’s Guilty Pleasures Night, when a few celebs’ stories/performances, such as Frankie’s and Lindsey’s, were entertaining and appeared to be genuine, while a few others, such as Nick’s and Nikki’s and, worst of all, Sasha’s, really did not work. Here’s hoping for high quality across the board tonight!

MON., OCT. 9          Frankie Muniz & Whitney #1.                   1-800-868-3405
Quickstep (“Adventure of a Lifetime,” Coldplay)
                    Judges’ scores 8-8-8.  Mine 8.5.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Frankie’s MMY is 2017; all of his experiences as an actor, a race-car driver, etc. and his health issues have come together here at DWTS. The dance was light, joyous, fun, peppy, and graceful. Again, he works very hard and is awfully cute.

The negative/work on:  Keep loosening the hips.

He’s due for:  Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Argentine Tango, Jive, Jazz, Charleston, Contemporary; Cha-Cha, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

MON., OCT. 9          Terrell Owens & Cheryl #2.                      1-800-868-3411

Vien. Waltz (“I Have Nothing,” Witney Houston)                    Judges’ scores 8-8-8.  Mine 8.5.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Terrell’s MMY was 2012 when his grandmother died; she had raised him and made him the man he is. He worked very hard and achieved much for this dance—graceful, smooth, flowing, straight posture, opening of his entire person to dance tall and wide with full extensions and graceful hands. I liked it a lot and am proud of him!

The negative/work on:  Maintain posture and graceful hands.

He’s due for:  Quickstep, Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Jive, Jazz, Charleston, Contemporary; Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble.

MON., OCT. 9           Nikki Bella & Artem #3.                             1-800-868-3409

Contemporary (“Fight Song,”  Rachel Platten)                      Judges’ scores 8-8-8.  Mine 8.5.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Nikki’s MMY was 2016 when she was seriously injured in wrestling and in severe pain.  Intense, gymnastic/athletic, passionate, heartfelt, vulnerable yet powerful, and pretty—including the skillful use of hanging silks. Expressive & lovely.

The negative/work on:  Maintain grace and control.

She’s due for:  Foxtrot, Quickstep, Argentine Tango, Jive, Jazz, Charleston, Cha-Cha, Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

MON., OCT. 9           Nick Lachey & Peta  #4.                            1-800-868-3408

Contemporary (“Falling Slowly,” M. Irglova/G. Hansard)     Judges’ scores 8-7-7.  Mine 8.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Nick’s MMY was 2010 when he and Vanessa became engaged and married.  He was intense, somewhat emotional, and fully invested in dancing for Vanessa and their family. He caught Peta well at least twice when she leaped into his arms–impressive. A pleasure to watch and clearly his best dance to date.

The negative/work on:  Turns, rhythm, hip looseness, straight posture, grace, bounce in footwork where required.

He’s due for:  Quickstep, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Jive, Charleston,; Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

MON., OCT. 9          Lindsey Stirling & Mark #5.                     1-800-868-3407

Vien. Waltz (“Anchor,” Mindy Gledhill)                                  Judges’ scores 9-8-9.  Mine 9.5.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Lindsey’s MMY was 2015 when her father died from cancer.  A flowing, flexible, graceful, beautiful tribute to her father as though she were dancing with him.  Perfect rhythm,  extensions, etc. Fab choreo!  Loved it!  My #2 DANCE OF THE NIGHT!

She’s due for:  Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Jazz, Charleston, Contemporary; Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

MON., OCT. 9          Derek Fisher & Sharna #6.                       1-800-868-3403

Jazz (“Move on Up,” Curtis Mayfield)                                         Judges’ scores 7-8-8. Mine 8.5.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Derek’s MMY was 2007 when his baby girl was diagnosed with retinal blastoma (eyes) and her survival was threatened; she made it. Great attitude, relaxed, fun, celebratory, rhythmic. Cute choreo. Really enjoyed it!  What a wonderful guy!

The negative/work on:  Technique, control.

He’s due for:  Quickstep, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Jive, Charleston, Contemporary; Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble.

MON., OCT. 9          Jordan Fisher & Lindsay #7.                    1-800-868-3406

Contemporary (“Take Me Home,” Us the Duo)          Judges’ scores 10-9-10.  Mine 10.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Jordan’s MMY was 2005 when he was adopted. WOW!  Gorgeous, creative, award-worthy choreography!  So graceful, expressive, and beautiful that I didn’t want it to end. I have to watch it again.  My #1 DANCE OF THE NIGHT.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Vanessa’s MMY has been 2017, with tenuous circumstances surrounding the early birth of their third child, a son.  Constant graceful, flowing movement; romantic, expressive, beautiful lines. Pretty!

Work on:  Maintain balance when so emotionally invested.

She’s due forQuickstep, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Jive, Charleston, Contemporary; Samba, Salsa, Paso Doble.

MON., OCT. 9          Sasha Pieterse & Gleb #9.                        1-800-868-3410

Foxtrot (“Over My Head [Cable Car],” The Fray)                     Judges’ scores 8-8-8.  Mine 7.5.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Sasha’s MMY was 2016  when she became engaged to marry. A far cry from last week’s disappointment, but, still, the choreo could have been more graceful.

The negative/work on:  Flexibility, appropriate choreography, technique.

She’s due for:  Quickstep, Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Jive, Charleston, Contemporary; Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

MON., OCT. 9          Drew Scott & Emma #10.                          1-800-868-3404

The positive:  Drew’s MMY was 2007 when he and twin brother Jonathan merged Drew’s desire to be an actor with his real-estate expertise and with Jonathan in the “Property Brothers” TV show.  Energetic, fun, good kicks/flicks, well-done. Jonathan joined in during the last 15 seconds or so.

The negative/work on:  Keep arms and hands graceful.

(“I Lived,” One Republic)
                                           Judges’ scores 9-9-9.  Mine 8.5.

“Most-Memorable Year”:

The positive:  Victoria’s MMY was 2010 when she became determined to overcome the disease and paralysis that had struck her at age 11.  Vulnerable, expressive, serious and joyful, inspirational. Again, an amazing story. Well-done!

Work on: Keep doing what you’re doing + work on achieving sufficient body contact.

She’s due for:  Waltz, Argentine Tango, Viennese Waltz, Jive, Jazz, Charleston, Contemporary; Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Paso Doble.

WHO WAS ELIMINATED TONIGHT?  Derek. I repeat—it should have been Sasha, esp. because last week’s non-dance was awful. Derek is much more deserving to stay.

WHO SHOULD BE ELIMINATED NEXT WEEK, DISNEY WEEK?  Nick.

MY IN-IT-TO-WIN-IT PICKS:  Lindsey Stirling, Jordan Fisher, Vanessa Lachey. After them, watch out especially for Nikki Bella and Drew Scott.

 OTHER NEWS

New Dance Single:  You can get Jordan Fisher’s “Mess” at iTunes.  Bet it’s great!

DWTS Winter Break Bonanza:  When the pros are on break this winter, you’ll have a chance to see them at a theater in a city near you!  Dancing with the Stars Live!—Light Up the Night tour. The cross-country tour will begin on Dec. 30 at the Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, NC and will finish on Mar. 18 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA. At least a few of your fave pros and troupe members will delight you:

The girls:  Pros Emma, Lindsay, Sharna, Witney, and Jenna; Hayley Ebert (troupe)

The guys:  Pros Keo, Sasha, Artem, Gleb, Alan; Brandon Armstrong (troupe)

You can find the complete list of cities/theaters/dates and buy tickets at www.dwtstour.com. Watching them on ABC is cool, but I know from experience that seeing them perform in person is a whole different dimension. You won’t want to miss it!

Notice that they’ll finish the tour at about the same time that the spring season of pros on DWTS normally starts; that will be okay if ABC indeed goes through with their plans to premiere a junior version of DWTS in the spring.
