Dancing With The Stars Week 3, Who Was Eliminated Sep. 27

On Monday night, the Dancing With The Stars performances were rushed in one hour so that the show could finish in time for the presidential candidates’ debate.  Celebs who won their face-offs would be safe from elimination.  That left us to wait until last night to learn who would be leaving the competition. Who was eliminated?  Around the performances of guest bands and brief replays of the prior evening’s performances, pros and troupe members danced and Tom reminded us of which celebs were safe.  We found out bit by bit which remaining celebs were in jeopardy: Terra, Amber, and Rick.  I had recommended that, based on performances to date, either Ryan Lochte (my preference) or Amber Rose should be eliminated.  In the end it was neither.  Ryan is a nice guy who seems to have a good attitude, but he’s consistently been in the lower half of the middle of the pack (at least, according to my accurate analysis) and his performances have been slipping, especially this week.  I don’t understand why he and certain others are receiving inaccurate scores and are being sheltered from elimination. Well-liked by all, no matter people’s political persuasions, former Texas governor Rick Perry was the one to go.  The “older” guy with the fun-loving and endearing personality was voted out.  Rick had learned to dance over the past weeks so that he’ll look good for his daughter at her wedding reception in mid-October.  He wasn’t surprised to be eliminated, and he comforted pro partner Emma in the process.  He was so sweet and entertaining along the way, and again last night.  We miss you already, Rick! Stay tuned for Dancing With The Stars again next Monday at 8 p.m. on ABC.  I still stand by my choices for elimination.  See you all back here shortly...

Dancing With The Stars, Season 23, Sep. 26

Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) Season 23, Sep. 26 →   The Cast: Pros + Stars Val Chmerkovskiy + Laurie Hernandez, U.S. Olympic Gymnast Cheryl Burke + Ryan Lochte, U.S. Olympic Swimmer Artem Chigvintsev + Maureen McCormick, Actress (“Marcia,”“Brady Bunch” TV show, 1960s/1970s) Maksim Chmerkovskiy + Amber Rose, Talk Show Host/Activist Sasha Farber + Terra Jolé, Reality TV Star Derek Hough + Marilu Henner, Actress/Author Emma Slater + Rick Perry, Former Texas Governor Lindsay Arnold + Calvin Johnson, NFL Wide Receiver, “Megatron” Allison Holker + “BabyFace” Edmonds, Singer Witney Carson + Vanilla Ice, Singer Sharna Burgess + James Hinchcliffe, Pro Race Car Driver Gleb Savchenko + Jana Kramer, Country Music Singer   Dancing With The Stars: Week 3 Analysis Everything was rushed tonight so that Dancing With The Stars could finish in one hour, in time for the presidential debate to begin at 9 p.m. Many of my predictions came true: many of the stars’ performances in face-offs between pairs of couples and of inaccurate, unfair scores from the judges. All dances were traditional with sufficient, appropriate content. Most celebs who won their face-offs really did win while a few others were cheated. They are numbered in order of appearance/performance.   Jive: “BabyFace” Edmonds vs. Jana Kramer:  Jana won. BabyFace: Judges’ scores 7-6-6-6. My score 6.5. Cute dance with good/sharp kicks. Rather stiff, though; needs to work on rhythm and bounce. Jana: Judges’ scores 6-7-6-7. My score 8. Her energetic dance was much better than BF’s. The judges cheated her on scores! She seems to feel much better this week. The jive does not showcase her incredible lines and greatest strengths, but she did a very good job. BTW, did you see Allison’s six-pack (with BF)?! Unreal, even for a dancer, as a woman who just had a baby several months ago.   Paso Doble: Rick Perry vs. Vanilla Ice:  VI “won.” Rick: Judges’ scores 6-5-6-6. My score 6.5. Better technique/frame/hands/entertainment.   . Vanilla: Judges’ scores 6-6-5-6. My score 6. Good spins, but frame/hands not as good. Both need to work on rhythm, a bit more on timing, and more-energetic footwork. They’re both entertaining, but Rick is more so. The judges tied them; Len broke the tie by inaccurately giving it to VI. VI did a good series of spinning Witney. But, Rick’s technique and frame were more consistently controlled, his arms/hands were more graceful, and he was more entertaining/even more likable; should have won.   Cha-Cha: James Hinchcliffe vs. Ryan Lochte:  James easily won. James: Judges’ score 7-7-8-7. My...

Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) Season 23, Week 2

Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) Season 23 Fall 2016: Sep. 19 Welcome to Week 2 of Season 23 of Dancing with the Stars, and TV Theme Night! Because I couldn’t get the names of all songs that were danced, I’m not going to list the ones I did get. You could guess some of them (match actors to their TV shows, past and present).   The Cast:  Pros + Stars Val Chmerkovskiy + Laurie Hernandez, U.S. Olympic Gymnast Cheryl Burke + Ryan Lochte, U.S. Olympic Swimmer Artem Chigvintsev + Maureen McCormick, Actress (“Marcia,” “Brady Bunch” TV show, 1960s/1970s) Maksim Chmerkovskiy + Amber Rose, Talk Show Host/Activist Sasha Farber + Terra Jolé, Reality TV Star Derek Hough + Marilu Henner, Actress/Author Emma Slater + Rick Perry, Former Texas Governor Jenna Johnson + Jake T. Austin, Actor Lindsay Arnold + Calvin Johnson, NFL Wide Receiver, “Megatron” Allison Holker + “BabyFace” Edmonds, Singer Witney Carson + Vanilla Ice, Singer Sharna Burgess + James Hinchcliffe, Pro Race Car Driver Gleb Savchenko + Jana Kramer, Country Music Singer   Dancing With The Stars: Week 2 Analysis The Stars were out with their pros, supplying technique, surprises, entertainment, disappointments, and, again, receiving some unfair scores. Dance content and the amount of it was WAY better this week. Maureen McCormick: Traditional Quickstep with Artem. Judges’ scores 7-6-6-7. My score 6.5. The positive: Good, energetic content and desire to learn/improve. She relaxed more and had fun, with former TV mom Florence Henderson involved. The negative/Needs to work on: frame, technique, and footwork; training herself not to do those unpleasant/odd facial expressions.   Jana Kramer: Traditional Tango with Gleb.                  Judges’ scores 7-8-7-7. My score 8. The positive: She put it all out there even though she was still in a lot of pain from pulled muscles between her ribs. She’s a natural, gifted, flexible, athletic, beautiful dancer who mesmerizes those who watch her! Delightful to watch–gorgeous and sexy! WOW!  Loved it! If given consistently appropriate dance content/instruction and fair scores, and if she can avoid further injury, she could win. Dance of the night #1! Carrie Ann, Julianne, and Bruno MAJORLY cheated her on scores for a nearly perfect dance; should have had 8’s and at least one 9. The negative/Needs to work on: Keeping her long, beautiful legs in proper position for each dance; straighten when necessary and extend fully.   Rick Perry: Traditional Quickstep with Emma.           Judges’ scores 6-5-6-5. My score 6.5. The positive: Dancing on behalf of all U.S. veterans! Joyous attitude, cute personality, cheerful face,...

Dancing With The Stars Season 23

Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) Season 23/Fall 2016: Sep. 12 →   Welcome back, Dancing with the Stars! Four months we’ve waited! This fall season opened with all pros (some shown rather closely) (and the troupe, I think, according to the numbers from a distance) together outdoors at LA’s beautiful Griffith Observatory, all dressed in red and black and forming a star at the end of their number. Then the camera took us indoors, into the ballroom, where everyone else waited. Everyone and everything pulsated with excitement and anticipation as we were taken directly to see the celebs. Welcome back to the regular pros (Val, Witney, Lindsay, Sharna, Artem); to the always-funny Sasha in his third season as a pro; to pros Derek, Emma, and Allison, whom we missed last season; to pros Maks and Cheryl, who didn’t dance here for a few years; and to pro Gleb, returning to the U.S. in his second term here after a long break from the U.S. while performing in Europe. Welcome to Dance Captain Jenna Johnson in her first season as a pro! Welcome back also to Tom and Erin as hosts; and to our usual three judges–Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli. Welcome back to Julianne Hough, returning as judge #4 after a season away. Peta, we miss you as a pro this season while you’re pregnant, but we’re glad to see you in the audience rooting on Maks and the others; we’ll watch for you to return in the spring or fall next year. Welcome to the fall season, number 23, of Dancing with the Stars and to all fans!   The Cast: Val Chmerkovskiy                    with                  Laurie Hernandez, U.S. Olympic Gymnast Cheryl Burke                            with                  Ryan Lochte, U.S. Olympic Swimmer Artem Chigvintsev                    with                  Maureen McCormick, Actress (“Marcia,”                                                                                                                 “Brady Bunch” TV show from 1960s/1970s) Maksim Chmerkovskiy with                  Amber Rose, Talk Show Host/Activist Sasha Farber                            with                  Terra Jolé, Reality TV Star Derek Hough                            with                  Marilu Henner, Actress/Author Emma Slater                             with                  Rick Perry, Former Texas Governor Jenna Johnson                          with                  Jake T. Dancing with the Stars Fall Season 2016

Dancing with the Stars Cast of Celebrities and Pro Partners! The Dancing with the Stars fall season will premiere Monday, September 12, ABC-TV, 8 p.m. What follows is today’s news from ABC regarding the fall lineup of pros, celebrities, hosts, and judges.   PROS                                        CELEBRITIES Val Chmerkovskiy        with        Laurie Hernandez, U.S. Olympic Gymnast Cheryl Burke               with          Ryan Lochte, U.S. Olympic Swimmer Artem Chigvintsev       with        Maureen McCormick, Actress               (“Marcia,” “Brady Bunch” TV show from 1960s/1970s) Maksim Chmerkovskiy  with     Amber Rose, Talk Show Host/Activist Sasha Farber              with          Terra Jolé, Reality TV Star Derek Hough               with         Marilu Henner, Actress/Author Emma Slater               with          Rick Perry, Former Texas Governor Jenna Johnson            with         Jake T. Austin, Actor Lindsay Arnold            with         Calvin Johnson, NFL Wide Receiver                                                                “Megatron” Allison Holker             with         “BabyFace” Edmonds, Singer Witney Carson            with          Vanilla Ice, Singer Sharna Burgess           with          James Hinchcliffe, Pro Race Car Driver Gleb Savchenko           with          Jana Kramer, Country Music Singer   Watch out for actress Marilu Henner, who, although she’s probably in her fifties, is well known for having nonstop energy. She also has a unique ability to remember nearly everything, even down to the date and the day of the week decades ago; that memory will come in handy to keep track of the fancy footwork she’ll have to do. Laurie Hernandez, gymnastics balance-beam specialist, and Ryan Lochte, are fresh from the Olympics, ready to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy rather than for gold, silver, or bronze medals. Remember that Olympians to date have performed excellently and even won on this show. Football players also have tended to do well. Even though I don’t know much about some of the celebs, I’m guessing that Laurie, Maureen, Marilu, Calvin, “BabyFace,” and Jana Kramer will have rhythm and good moves.   Welcome back to Cheryl, who won three times and has pursued other ventures for the past three years; to Maks, who took a couple of seasons off; to Derek, who has been on and will return to Broadway in NYC; to Allison Holker, who was on maternity leave last season; and to Gleb, who had one season as a pro a few years ago. Welcome to dance captain Jenna in her first time as a pro! Maks, please tell Peta that we miss her while she’s in pregnancy mode with your first child together.   Tom and Erin will host again while Len, Carrie Ann, and Bruno continue to judge. I’ve heard that seated between two of them this season will be Julianne Hough, returning after a season off to serve as judge #4, at least...
