Dancing With The Stars, 18 July 2015

NEWS: Rumer Willis will debut on Broadway as character Roxie Hart in “Chicago” at the Ambassador Theatre Aug. 18 through Oct. 11. Meanwhile, she continues on some segments of the summer’s Live! Tour, which must mean that her sprained ankle has healed. She reportedly says that we all need to stop bullying ourselves. Pros Allison Holker and Derek Hough have been nominated For “Teen Choice Dancer.” DWTS has been nominated for 8 Emmys: Outstanding Reality (Competition) Program; Tom Bergeron as host; Hairstyling & Makeup (Episode 1907); Lighting Design/Lighting Direction (Episode 1911A and the 10th Anniversary Special); Choreography: Derek Hough/Julianne Hough/Tessandra Chavez (“Elastic Heart”) and Witney Carson (“It’s Not Unusual/369/Sing With A Swing-Apache”). Sibling-pros Derek and Julianne Hough recently had a lip-sync/dance competition in Central Park, NY. Derek is said to have won. Pro Lindsay Arnold is said to have married her high-school sweetheart during the summer break from the show. Pro Tony Dovolani said he’d love to be a judge on the show—a fair one. DWTS alum Cheryl Burke says that even as a highly flexible dancer she still can’t do the drop-split. Singer Andy Grammer is reported to have expressed interest in competing on DWTS.

RUMORS: True or False? Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are rumored to be engaged to marry. Another rumor concerns Witney Carson and Bachelor/farmer Chris Soules may be dating while another says they’ve broken up. No way right now to confirm whether rumors about either couple are true or false. A rumor that Caitlyn Jenner would be a member of the DWTS fall season supposedly has been disproven. It’s also being said that Ryker Lynch (cousin of Derek and Julianne Hough) is having trouble handling the major amount of fame that he’s garnered since being a contestant on DWTS during spring season 2015. Pro Kym Johnson finally has confirmed her romantic involvement with her spring 2015 celebrity partner, Robert Herjavec, businessman-star of “Shark Tank.” Pro Cheryl Burke is also said to have confirmed it.

WATCH PAST PERFORMANCES: Some of last season’s DWTS performances are still shown on www.youtube.com/user/ABCDWTS. I like being able to review and to maybe see something that I didn’t notice the first time.

FALL SEASON COMING! Dancing with the Stars will kick off its 21st season on Monday, September 14—ABC, 8 p.m. I’m eager to know which celebrities will be in the cast! I’ll keep eyes and ears geared for news, and I’ll tell you whenever I have it.

MEANWHILE: Our dancers are on the road and on the high seas.  Maybe they’re coming to a city near you! A female reviewer of the DWTS Live! Performance in Bakersfield, CA, said that Val Chmerkovskiy has let himself go since winning the Mirrorball in May but added that the female spectators went wild for the men-only performance. She also quoted host Melissa Rycroft as having told the crowd that the tour is, “for the fans, for the people at home who watch and vote but can’t be in the studio audience.” “Ballroom with a Twist” is a live series of performances starring dance pros from DWTS and “So You Think You Can Dance,” along with singers from “American Idol” and “The X Factor.” They’ll be at the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, Mass. July 23–25 and at NYCB Theatre in Westbury, NY August 9.

P.S. If you want to know more about the life of a ballroom dancer in the 1930s/40s, please check out my book, “Dancing in the Stars: Carroll Webster, International Dance Luminary of Vaudeville and Hollywood,” available from https://www.createspace.com/5311269. Some readers report back, with comments such as: “It’s a fascinating story! I learned so much about a dancer’s life on the road and how this man’s life worked into the history of the times and with famous people. I loved it—it’s great! Well done!” Thank you! Enjoy.
