Dancing With The Stars: Week 6 Analysis [To comment, click on the title of this week’s article or go directly to sign-in in the lower right-hand corner of the page.] It’s “Famous Dance” week on Dancing With The Stars! Celebs and their pro partners danced to famous songs, especially from movies. With only two days left before Monday’s performance, the producers changed Mark and Paige’s song, so Mark had to produce a new routine—pressure!  Jodie and Kim continued, after medical attention, through foot/ankle injuries. The show opened with all of the pros and the troupe dancing in period costume to “Puttin’ on the Ritz”—fabulous! Certain celebs advanced while others stalled or back-stepped a bit.  One celeb did a dance for which the show doesn’t have a category or real judging expertise.  Judging, as usual, was slightly inaccurate in either direction, but at least they weren’t way off the mark this week, even though some comments were unnecessarily harsh. One celeb threw his or her pro under the bus—Grrr! Kim Fields: Jive. Judges’ scores 8.  My score 9. The positive: A REAL JIVE: peppy, sharp, correct; good lines and energetic in what was clearly a fun dance with other couples.  Kim and Sasha revved up the crowd.  Impressive and fun to watch! The negative: CAI said it should have been even more energetic.   Von Miller: Jazz.                         Judges’ score 8.  My score 8.5. The positive: His best dance so far!  He didn’t miss a beat or a step!  Great lines, full arm extensions, even elegantly at least once; appropriate facial expressions.  He was really into it, and I really liked it. The negative: Keep learning; keep refining technique, lines, and posture (consistently).   Jodie Sweetin: Contemporary. Judges’ scores...

Dancing With The Stars Season 22: Week 5 Analysis

Dancing With The Stars Season 22: Week 5 Analysis   It’s Switch-Up Week!  Who’s paired with whom?  Which new pairings will be beneficial, and which will backfire?  Which new couples should have been together all along?  Maks is back as a guest judge. Eliminated pros Edyta, Tony, and Artem danced together. Artem and Jenna did a steamy dance.   The customary lineup for the season: Antonio Brown: NFL/Pitts Steelers wide receiver/punt returner (like Hines Ward, season 12, Kym Johnson). Brown wants Steelers fans nationwide. Pro partner: Sharna Burgess. Nyle Dimarco:  Deaf actor; an “America’s Next Top Model.” Pro partner: Peta Murgatroyd. Kim Fields: TV/film actress (“The Facts Of Life”).” Pro partner: Sasha Farber. Doug Flutie: FB commentator (was NFL Q’bk/Chargers/Patriots); Pro partner: Karina Smirnoff. Von Miller:  Denver Broncos def. linebacker/SB50 MVP 2/2016.  Pro partner: Witney Carson. Wanya Morris: 1990s H.S. to Boyz II Men (bestselling R&B). Pro partner: Lindsay Arnold. Jodie Sweetin: Actress (“Full/er House” & author). Pro partner: Keo Motsepe. Paige VanZant: UFC straw-wt. mixed martial arts; lifelong dancer. Pro partner: Mark Ballas. Ginger Zee: ABC GMA chief meteorologist, new mom. Pro partner: Val Chmerkovskiy. [To comment, click on this week’s title or sign-in in the southeast corner of the page.] Wanya Morris with Witney: Tango. Judges’ scores 8-7-7-8. My score 8. The positive: A good job, although not as well done as usual. It was correct with full tango content, good holds/hip action/turns. Wanya attacked this dance as enthusiastically as he has all others.  He’s such a joy to watch!  Ya gotta love this guy and his appreciation for dance. The negative: His excessive energy produced too much movement beyond the traditional tightness/control. Because he’s so happy to dance, some of the movements and facial expressions weren’t dramatic enough.  His footwork was a tad off here and there, too.   Kim Fields with Keo: Viennese Waltz.   Judges’ scores 8-6-6-8. My score 8. The positive: It was smooth, romantic, graceful, and sufficiently dramatic, which combined to make it very pretty. Kim’s fully extended arms/movements and hands were gorgeously graceful. Keo is doing a fine job as a pro, even if the judges did bicker over content. The negative: Its content wasn’t sufficiently traditional, which Nyle’s truly was with Sharna, but it had enough that we knew what they were going for, and it was a pleasure to watch.   Doug Flutie with Peta: Tango. Judges’ score 7. My score 8. The positive: He tried so hard, with such commitment and determination!  Good frame, footwork, hips, turns, etc....

Dancing With The Stars Season 22: Week 4 Analysis

Dancing With The Stars Season 22: Week 4 Analysis—April 11, 2016   Dear Blog Fans,   Somehow last week I left out that pro dancer Allison Holker gave birth to a boy on Easter Sunday. Baby weighed an ounce shy of 9 pounds. Allison, husband Stephen “tWitch” Boss (So You Think You Can Dance), and big sis are all doing well as an excited and blessed family. There must have been something in the water because pro Tristan MacManus and his partner, Tahyna Tozzi, welcomed a baby girl shortly thereafter, on April 5.   Antonio Brown: NFL/Pitts Steelers wide receiver/punt returner.  Pro partner: Sharna Burgess. Nyle Dimarco: Deaf actor; an “America’s Next Top Model.” Pro partner: Peta Murgatroyd. Kim Fields: TV/film actress (“The Facts Of Life”).” Pro partner: Sasha Farber. Dancing With The Stars: Week 4 Analysis [To comment, click on the title of this week’s article or go directly to sign-in in the lower right-hand corner of the page.] It’s Disney week on Dancing With The Stars! Everyone was ultra-excited (Who doesn’t love Disney?!), and all of the crews (lighting, set design, hair/makeup, wardrobe, etc.) went all out. We saw a night of many delights and a few disappointments. Zendaya, who competed with Val as her partner a few seasons ago, served as a guest judge, seated between Len and Bruno; she was insightful and on target in concise and well-expressed comments, and she clearly had fun. Antonio Brown: Jazz. “Aladdin” Judges’ scores 9-8-9-9. My score 9. The positive: He stayed right with and looked as good as the four male pros who accompanied him! What showmanship! He showed good posture, great footwork, and huge progress. Very impressive! What a pleasant surprise! Excellent choreo, Sharna! The negative: Keep monitoring and improving flow of arms and presentation of hands.   Marla Maples: Waltz. “The Little Mermaid” Judges’ score 7. My score 7.5. The positive: As usual, Marla showed lovely lines and grace most of the time, as well as her kind of a calm joy...

New Weekly Posts for Dancing with the Stars

Hi, Blog Readers and DWTS Fans! I just want to clarify for you that during “Dancing With The Stars” seasons I write on my blog about each Monday night’s performance and usually post it right away.  Because I’m on Eastern Time, it’s already getting late by the time the show finishes, and then with time to write the new piece it’s sometimes after midnight on Tuesday by the time I post it for your reading pleasure.  Now and then, circumstances such as extreme fatigue or feeling ill keep me from posting until later in the day on Tuesday or, rarely, Wednesday.  At least 95% of the time you can expect to find it ready for you here either very late on Monday or just an hour or two into Tuesday.  If possible, once in a while I may do a series of bulk e-mailing to all 400 of you just to alert you that it’s up. Let’s talk about the DWTS performances and our projections as often as possible.  Just click on the title of the week’s article or go directly to sign-in in the lower right-hand corner of the page. Dancing With The Stars Season 22: Week 3 Analysis–April 4, 2016

Dancing With The Stars Season 22: Week 3 Analysis–April 4, 2016   Dear Readers: I forgot to tell you a week or two ago that the father of Derek and Julianne Hough died very recently. I don’t have medical details–just thought you’d like to know.   Also, Lindsay says that her BoyzIIMen star Wanya flies back and forth between DWTS workouts and his group’s performances in Vegas, but somehow keeps his dedication and energy soaring.   Reminder: The stars and some of the pros don’t just rehearse their dances all week long.  Some of them have many other difficult demands on their time, focus, and energy.  Here are examples:  Some have to go home to be spouses and parents.  Some have to fly between DWTS duties and highly scheduled jobs and performances in other states (even across the country), and their pros often accompany them.  Some of the pros attend high-visibility red-carpet events and community-support activities.  Some star/pro couples guest-star on TV shows.  They have very little downtime.  How they do it all, I can’t imagine.   Tonight, I expect to see more excellent choreo by Keo, Lindsay, and Karina, at least. I hope Keo has recovered from some sort of a boo-boo that he sustained in practice; he’s very impressive with Jodie.  And, I hope things will work out okay for Mischa and Artem, and that the wonderful Edyta Sliwinska will stay on to perform even though Geraldo just left.  Let’s see!   Mischa Barton: Actress of film, TV, stage. Pro partner: Artem Chigventsev. Antonio Brown: NFL/Pitts Steelers wide receiver/punt returner (like Hines Ward, season 12, Kym Johnson). Brown wants Steelers fans nationwide. Pro partner: Sharna Burgess. Nyle Dimarco:  Deaf actor; an “America’s Next Top Model.” Pro partner: Peta Murgatroyd. Kim Fields: TV/film actress (“The Facts Of Life”).” Pro partner: Sasha Farber. Doug Flutie: FB commentator (was NFL Q’bk/Chargers/Patriots); Pro partner: Karina Smirnoff. Marla Maples:  Stage/TV(host)/film; mother of Tiffany Trump.  Pro partner: Tony Dovolani. Von Miller:  Denver Broncos def. linebacker/SB50 MVP 2/2016.  Pro partner: Witney Carson. Wanya Morris: 1990s H.S. to Boyz II Men (bestselling R&B). Pro partner: Lindsay Arnold. Jodie Sweetin: Actress (“Full/er House” & author). Pro partner: Keo Motsepe. Paige VanZant: UFC straw-wt. mixed martial arts; lifelong dancer. Pro partner: Mark Ballas.
